A Chronic Entrepreneur

Stories of Entrepreneurs Thriving with Chronic Illness

A Chronic Entrepreneur is all about changing the dialogue surrounding chronic illnesses, by sharing stories of those thriving in business with their “chronics” in tow. It’s frustrating that often when an article is written about someone who has a chronic illness they are described as “suffering”. It’s such a derogatory term, especially when so many people are thriving, and living wonderful, fulfilling lives – maybe not what they thought they would do/be, but life has a way of releasing inner strength when it is most needed, shining a light on new opportunities. Over the past three years, we have created a community of like-minded entrepreneurs through storytelling and shared life experiences. Please enjoy reading the stories of these rockstar entrepreneurs, and get in contact if you have a story of your own to share.

A diagnosis may feel like the end of your life, but it is simply the start of a beautiful new chapter

My name is Dara and I am the founder of
A Chronic Entrepreneur.

I am also an entrepreneur, having founded Byzantine Design “The Most Beautiful Tile Store in Melbourne” mere weeks before being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I want to challenge the notion that a chronic illness is a sentence for suffering and struggle and will make people struggle to be entrepreneurs; in fact, I think that having a chronic illness can sometimes be what makes people great entrepreneurs. This blog is what I was looking for when I was first diagnosed with MS - and I hope that through it I can empower others with “chronics” to embrace the journey and the joy that is entrepreneurship.
